This is one of the few towns on our map where Midway wins on distance. From the middle of the village it is about 7 miles straight-line to Midway and 10 miles by road: east on the Eisenhower (I-290) to Cicero Avenue, then south on Cicero to 55th Street and the terminal. Harlem Avenue south to 55th Street is the backup when the Eisenhower is jammed.
O'Hare is farther. It is about 8 miles straight-line and 14 by the shortest road route, which heads north through Melrose Park on 25th Avenue to Mannheim Road and then I-190 into the terminals. The expressway version, the Eisenhower west to the Tri-State (I-294) north and then I-190, runs closer to 18 miles but keeps you off the stoplights.

The village is the end of the CTA Blue Line's Forest Park branch, and the Green Line's Harlem/Lake terminal sits on the village's east edge. Locals know how it goes: the Blue Line does reach O'Hare, but only after riding all the way in through downtown and back out the other branch, and getting to Midway means changing to the Orange Line in the Loop. If you travel light and have time, that is fine. With a stroller, two checked bags and a 6 a.m. departure, it's a hard sell.
Groups change the math again. Eight people splitting train fares is cheap, but eight people and their suitcases on a packed morning train is nobody's idea of a relaxed start. One Sprinter from your front door to the curb keeps everyone and every bag together, and the same chauffeur can be waiting at arrivals when the trip is over.
Madison Street between Harlem Avenue and Desplaines Avenue is Forest Park's restaurant and bar strip, and it explains why so many Forest Park bookings happen after dark: birthday dinners, pub crawls, reunion nights and bachelor parties that start local and finish downtown. A Sprinter works well on Madison because it can drop the group, wait close by, and move everyone to the next stop without anybody needing to drive.
Madison gets crowded on Friday and Saturday nights and during the village's street events, and there is no room to idle a large vehicle in the traffic lane. We plan pickups on the cross streets, and the chauffeur calls once the vehicle is in position. Bigger crowds go on the party bus. Forest Park is known for its cemeteries. Forest Home and Concordia, along with Woodlawn and Jewish Waldheim, all lie inside the village, spread across its west and south sides, and Forest Home is where the Haymarket Martyrs' Monument stands. For many families across the western suburbs and the city, a funeral means a drive to Forest Park.
Funeral work is quiet and exact, and it runs on the funeral director's clock. A typical booking is one or two family cars: an SUV or a Sprinter that collects the immediate family at home, takes its place in the procession to the church or chapel and then the graveside, and brings everyone to the luncheon afterward. Proviso Township High School District 209 serves the village. The district's Proviso Math and Science Academy is in the village on Roosevelt Road, and Proviso East is just west in Maywood, so spring brings prom groups from both asking for Sprinters and the party bus; the prom page explains how we schedule those nights. Prom groups usually want photos first, so we build the route around the house, the photo spot and the venue, and we keep a copy of the chaperone contact and the drop-off time.
Games and concerts are the other big reason Forest Park groups call. The Eisenhower ramps at Harlem Avenue and Desplaines Avenue make the United Center a straight run east, and the arena sits on West Madison Street, the same street that runs through downtown Forest Park. Arena nights end all at once, when the lots empty and app rides get scarce and expensive, so the chauffeur holds a set meeting point near the arena and waits for the group after the last whistle or the encore. Leave extra margin on the way in, because the inbound Eisenhower slows down before a 7 p.m. start.
Harlem Avenue is the line between Forest Park and Oak Park, and the two towns share the Harlem/Lake corner and its train stops. River Forest sits directly north, home to Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago. Maywood lies west across the Des Plaines River, and Berwyn is across Harlem Avenue to the southeast, below Roosevelt Road.
